What Nomi does well
Nomi's strengths are real, and several of them are structural.
- Memory reputation and the Mind Map. Nomi has been shipping memory improvements in public for years. Its March 2025 update talked about recalling events from more than a thousand messages ago, and Mind Map 2.0 (October 2025) lets you open a graph or table of what your Nomi knows about the people, places, topics and goals in your life, then edit it or add to it. Being able to see and correct the memory is a genuine feature, not a marketing line.
- Several companions and group chats. One Nomi subscription covers multiple Nomis, and you can put them in a group chat together.
- Hands-free voice calls. Nomi offers both voice messages and live calls.
- Android and web. Nomi runs on iOS, Android and in a browser.
- An established community. Nomi has been on the App Store since July 2023, rated 4.6 from about 2,800 ratings, with an active subreddit and a Discord.
Where My Softly is different
My Softly is built for a particular person, and the point of this page is to help you work out whether that person is you.
SFW by design, not by setting
Nomi's founding principle, in its own words, is that it stays unfiltered and uncensored. For a lot of adults that is exactly the appeal, and Nomi is honest about it. But it means the platonic Nomi you set up is platonic because you keep it that way, inside an app where the other mode is available and where the community and marketing reflect that.
My Softly has no adult mode. There is nothing to switch off, no premium tier that unlocks it, and no character who will drift there. Check-ins built around what you actually said
Both apps can message you first. The difference is what the message is made of. Nomi says its companions can optionally message you after you have been away for a while, and can act on their own to continue a conversation. That is a re-engagement model: absence triggers a message.
My Softly's check-ins start from the conversation. Mention a vet appointment on Tuesday and the follow-up on Wednesday asks how it went. They respect quiet hours (nine in the evening to eight in the morning by default), they don't stack up unanswered, and if you stop replying your companion steps back rather than chasing you. Adults first, and a warmer register
Nomi is a broad platform: friendship, romance, mentorship, roleplay, photorealistic or anime appearances, hundreds of looks to choose from. My Softly is narrower on purpose. Six ready-made companions who look and sound like adults, four voices in American and British English, and a tone aimed at people who want a steady presence in their day rather than a scenario to play out. The average paying subscriber is in their mid-fifties, men and women about evenly. If you found other companion apps a little too much like a game, that narrowness is the feature.
Flat pricing for conversation
In My Softly the subscription covers unlimited conversation, including voice replies within a monthly allowance, and check-ins. Credits exist only for extras, mainly photos you ask your companion for, at a fixed one credit per photo. Nomi also sells conversation on a flat plan with credits for images and other extras, so this is a difference of degree rather than kind, but we have tried to keep the metered part as small and legible as we can.
The memory question, honestly
Both apps say they remember you. Both are telling the truth about their design, and there is no score on this page, because the facts that matter are yours.

Is Nomi safe for work?
Not by design. Nomi describes itself as unfiltered and uncensored, carries an 18+ rating on the App Store, and adult content is available to adults who turn it on. You can keep a Nomi platonic, but that is a choice you maintain, not a wall the app builds. My Softly has no adult mode anywhere in the app, so there is nothing to turn off.
