Who writes these guides
Every guide on this site is written by the founder of My Softly. There is no editorial team, no roster of reviewers, and no pen names. One person builds the app and writes the pages, which is why the connection is stated on every page where the app appears.
The app exists because of two complaints that come up in almost every conversation about AI companions: they forget you between sessions, and they never reach out first. My Softly is built around a lasting memory of the people, places and moments you mention, and around check-ins that follow up on what you actually said. The guides here grew out of the same two questions, because the people searching for an app that remembers them or texts them first deserve a straight answer whether or not they ever install ours.
Running the app also produces something most people arguing about AI companions do not have: data. The one finding we did not expect is that the average paying subscriber is in their mid-fifties, split roughly evenly between men and women, and that the feature the most engaged subscribers ask for by name is being messaged first. That finding became a ten-minute video essay, People over 50 are secretly dating AI, published on our YouTube channel Cybersocial with the written version and every study cited on this site.
How we write these guides
We copy the shape of a good review site, not the fiction that often comes with one. The rules:
- Ownership is disclosed on every page where My Softly appears. If our app is in a list or a comparison, the page says so before it says anything else.
- Competitor facts come from the source, with a date. Prices are taken from the US App Store listing on the day we checked it, and the date is on the page. Feature claims come from the app maker's own site or release notes. Anything we could not confirm that way is labelled as unconfirmed or left out.
- No invented tests, hours, or star scores. We do not claim to have spent weeks with an app we have not, and we do not hand out ratings out of ten. Where we compare, we compare by what each app is actually good at.
- One memory test, handed to you rather than scored for you. The 21-day memory protocol is written so anyone can repeat it on any app. There are no memory scores in our tables, because a number nobody measured is worth nothing.
- Corrections are welcome. If a price has changed, a feature has shipped, or we have got something wrong about your app or someone else's, tell us and we will fix the page and note the update.
